Declarations of Interest

Every year, all Governors are required to sign a ‘Register of Business Interests’ form.  If a Governor has any business, financial, family or other interests which may cause a potential conflict of interest with their role as a Governor, these must be declared.

It can be a criminal offence if a Governor:

  • Omits information which should be included on the form.

  • Provides information which is false or misleading.

  • Fails to notify the Governors/Head teacher of any subsequent change in circumstances which might render the declaration to be invalid or out of date.

The execution of this process at the start of every new academic year is a responsibility of the Clerk to Governors. A Register of Business Interests is maintained by the Clerk to Governors.

All Governors have duly signed ‘Register of Business Interests’ forms for this current year.

No Governor sits on the Governing Body of any other educational institution.

In addition, at the commencement of every Governors’ meeting, the Chair asks if there are any items on the agenda which may cause any Governor a potential conflict of interests.   If such an interest is declared, it is formally minuted and the relevant Governor may be asked by the Chair to leave the meeting while that particular agenda item is discussed.

Associate Members

An Associate Member cannot Chair a meeting of the full Governing Board and they have no voting rights.

They can Chair Committee meetings but if there was ever a tied vote they would not have a casting vote, unlike a chair who is a Governor.
