'Here We Are'

Notes for Living on Planet Earth

By Oliver Jeffers

During September, to help us re-engage with school life, we have read and discussed this thought-provoking and beautifully illustrated book by Oliver Jeffers.  The author wrote the book for his son, when he was born, to try and explain what it was like to live on planet Earth.

We have looked at many aspects of the book, including the wonders of the night-sky, the amazing creatures which inhabit both the land and sea and how there are similarities and differences in all the people who live here. We have considered how, over the last few months, there have been positive 'gains' for the environment and how we would like to be able to help sustain these. We have also discussed that one of the most important qualities we can have, as we live here, is to be kind to everyone and everything.

The children have thought about their own special places, people and animals and then concluded by writing their own notes for living on planet Earth. We have had notes written to visiting aliens, to 'whoever would like to learn', to the next generation and the children's own future children!

They have certainly produced some lovely work which is reflected in this small sample below.

A very big well done to everyone!
